Mission and Values
Living the Mission: Our Reason for Being
Our mission and values serve as the pillars for the holistic education we provide students and professionals, an education to which we are fully committed.
Our mission: Education and research
At Esade, we fulfil this mission inspired by humanistic and Christian traditions within the framework of intercultural dialogue.
Education
Provide a holistic education to individuals for them to become competent and socially responsible professionals.
Research
Generate knowledge to help to improve organisations and society.
Social Debate
Contribute to social debate and help to build free, prosperous, fairer and socially and environmentally sustainable societies.
Declaration of values
(Approved by the Fundació Esade Board of Trustees on January 24th, 2008)
The Esade community is committed to promoting a set of values that are consistent with human quality and academic and professional excellence, values at the service of the local and global society in which we are immersed. These values are:
Integrity
Instil integrity in all our academic and professional activities. This means behaving with a commitment to fundamental values such as rigour and hard work, honesty, a critical spirit, equity and a sense of responsibility, even in difficult circumstances.
Sensitivity
Respect colleagues and people, including ourselves, and being sensitive to others’ concrete circumstances. This implies respecting everyone’s dignity and being able to support and help others when they need it and working together to build a fairer and more humane world.
Diversity
Positively value diversity and learn from differences between people, ideas and situations. This means understanding that differences based on gender, ethnicity, language, culture, sexual orientation, religion, physical traits or any other differences are opportunities to learn and enrich ourselves with different visions about people, the world and ourselves.
Contribute to the common good
Seek, share and contribute to the common good. This means being aware that we cannot obtain our own good separately from that of the entire community and that, consequently, this has to be reflected in attitudes based on respect and responsibility towards the community.
A fairer and more sustainable society
Assume responsibilities and commitments to achieve a fairer and more sustainable society. This implies seeing reality not just “how it is” in fact but, also, “how it should be”, in keeping with the fundamental values of justice and environmental sustainability.
As an educational institution, we are convinced that imbuing our personnel, students and participants with these values is extremely effective and will help us to overcome the social, cultural and environmental challenges we will face throughout our lifetimes.
Society of Jesus
Origin
Fundació Esade was founded thanks to the initiative of a group of entrepreneurs that asked the Society of Jesus in 1958 to educate professionals with a view to leading the social and economic transformation which achieved its maximum splendour in the 1960s.
Objectives
The Jesuits’ long-standing tradition and experience in the educational field aim to fully develop people and provide them training with a clear focus on “service to others”.
Pedagogy
This educational tradition translates into a pedagogical focus based on teaching to think and learn based on a profound social commitment. The Society of Jesus’ areas of activity not only include schools but, also, universities and business schools around the world.
"Educating men and women for others, responsible for themselves and the world around them and committed to the task of transforming towards a more fraternal and fairer society."
P. Pedro Arrupe, S.J.
International presence
The relation between Esade and the Society of Jesus extends to other universities in more than 80 countries around the world. As such, Esade is a member of numerous associations and also participates in different forums and collaborates with diverse Society of Jesus institutions.
