Help Ukraine
Help Ukraine
Esade, based on its Christian and Jesuit tradition, wants to express its active non-violent stance and its rejection of all armed conflict. Our global educational project is firmly committed to peace, freedom and a respect for International Law.
Included amongst our values and our own mission, Do Good. Do Better, is our aim to build a better world for all through education, research and social debate.
The Russian army’s invasion of Ukraine has led to a truly tragic situation and represents a new and difficult economic and humanitarian challenge.
Given this situation, our community, which consists of members from more than 126 different nationalities in a climate of mutual respect and integration, has become even more united as an example of diversity, social responsibility and solidarity, promoting and launching initiatives in support of Ukrainian society as well as the Russian population opposed to this war and who are suffering the consequences of their government’s actions.
Our institution, at both the academic and economic levels, is focused on providing help. We would thus like to encourage you to take action and support the various initiatives we will be announcing and updating on our website. If you have any questions about how to take part, please send us an e-mail: identityandmission@esade.edu
Solidarity-based initiatives
Entreculturas and Jesuit Refugee Service
The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) has activated its emergency protocols to take care of, support and help the people of Ukraine and those seeking refuge in neighbouring countries. In Spain, Entreculturas and Alboan have also activated their emergency protocols to help the JRS and the different Jesuit provinces linked to the SJ’s mission in Ukraine and surrounding nations. The Jesuit Migrant Service (SJM) has also launched a service to centralise information for people who want to help and to gather other proposals to help or provide guidance: consultas@sjme.org
Run for Peace
Esade is joining the Run for Peace, a fundraiser organized by CEMS students. The proceeds will be donated to the Ukraine fund at CARE International, an NGO and third-sector partner of CEMS trying to provide help, food, water, hygiene kits, psycho-social support and effective assistance for 4 million people in Ukraine.
The aim is to run 3,000 km, i.e., the distance from Barcelona to Kyiv, in one month. Students, faculty and employees from Esade and other CEMS partners had contributed kilometers, made donations and shared the event on their social media accounts to receive donations.
Drives to gather food, medical material and other essential items
In the initial days of the conflict, we organised four drop-off points on our campuses for people to donate clothes and other essential items to deliver to the Ukrainian people through the Consulate General of Ukraine. Since then, we’ve seen that the most effective and fundamental means to provide help is through financial donations. Community members interested in making this type of donation can click on the following link.
Fundraising for UNICEF
The 2020 class of the Full Time MBA graduated on March 25th. Despite the day’s celebrations, the students’ and families’ thoughts were with all those affected by the war in Ukraine. They launched a fund-raising campaign for UNICEF and successfully raised 2,369 euros which they donated in full to the organisation.
Though their campaign has ended, you can still support UNICEF by making a donation via its website.
Spiritual support
In these uncertain times, we ask that in-depth dialogue serve as the means to resolve conflicts and restore peace. We are available to support all the members of our community who are traversing a difficult time. Please feel free to contact us: identityandmission@esade.edu
Prayer for Peace
With war touching us so closely, we want to call the whole Esade community to share an ecumenical prayer for peace in Ukraine and in memory of all those who have lost their lives in the war or are being seriously affected by it.
Support talent
One of our initiatives is also dedicated to helping our students, alumni, faculty and professionals as well as students affected by the war and who want to study at Esade, sharing our values and commitment.
We’ll provide information shortly on how to help with various initiatives to support talent.
