World Refugee Day on June 20 shines a light on the reality faced by millions of people forced to flee their homes because of conflict, violence, and persecution.
In 2026, it takes on special significance as it marks the 75th anniversary of the 1951 Refugee Convention, the landmark international treaty that established the legal foundations ensuring that no one is returned to a place where their life would be at risk.
Under the theme “Until everyone is safe,” this year’s campaign delivers a powerful reminder: the promise of protection and refuge was conceived as a universal principle for all humanity, regardless of origin, wealth, or gender.
