A practical, experience-based methodology
The Esade Bachelor in Law is based on a practical and experiential methodology for you to learn about Law by putting your knowledge and skills into practice. Laws exist to resolve conflicts. For this reason, at Esade we wager on an innovative methodology that will immerse you in legal practice throughout the entire program.
- In the classroom. You’ll resolve practical cases and participate in trial simulations in class. A good example is the 360º Legal Project, a macro-case study which you will work on during your second and third program years.
- Outside the classroom. You’ll learn experientially by participating in debate leagues and international moot courts.
Learning by doing in the classroom
Active classes
You’ll work in small groups in a participatory setting, exploring all type of legal topics and current issues. You will constantly interact with classmates and faculty.
Real case studies
In class you’ll debate on and resolve real legal cases provided by law firms and legal departments in various multinationals. You’ll analyse the situations and present possible solutions, applying the knowledge you’ve acquired in your subjects as well as legal reasoning. Worth noting amongst all the legal cases you’ll resolve are the 360º Legal Project – a case which you’ll be assigned in your second year and which you’ll have to resolve as you learn, semester by semester, until the third year – and your Final Degree Project –a real Public or Private Law case which you’ll have to complete to end the program–.
Trial simulations
Esade has created a space for trial simulations, incorporating the same recording systems used in courts today. You’ll be able to simulate trials and watch all manner of real hearings and trials.
Research projects
You’ll learn to efficiently look for information, dealing with different sources and selecting the key information you need for your strategy or legal arguments.
Teamwork
At Esade we promote teamwork given that this is the way people traditionally work in the professional setting: You’ll learn to work with others to achieve a common goal.
Legal skills
The program curriculum includes optional subjects such as Debate Leagues, Contract Techniques and Management Skills. In addition, you’ll work on specific skills and competencies such as oratory skills, presenting quick counterarguments, public speaking and teamwork, amongst others. They are skills that will enrich your professional profile: You’ll become a legal expert with added value.
You’ll also put these skills into practice by participating in trial simulations, debate leagues and international moot courts.
Learning by doing outside the classroom
During the Bachelor in Law programme, you’ll also have the opportunity to participate in numerous legal experiences outside the classroom, such as international moot courts and debate leagues.
These experiences will enable you to work just like practicing lawyers do and develop the competencies that can only be honed through professional practice: Some lessons can only be learnt by preparing cases, facing other lawyers before a judge, arguing, presenting your responses, preparing documents, etc.
Microeconomics Challenge
For the first time, Esade has posed a transversal challenge among students of practically all its Degrees, in teams.
They have had to analyze the future of the automobile industry in Europe using economic tools, they have presented their projects before a jury of experts, made up of real companies and institutions, who have announced the winning group.
Debate leagues
Compete in leading debate leagues
To participate, you have to complete a dedicated subject focused on presenting arguments, critical reasoning, research and oral resources. After completing this subject, students will be selected to take part in different teams to prepare and take part in the debate leagues in which they decide to compete.
Some of the debate leagues in which our students have participated include: Liga de la Xarxa Vives, Liga Unijés, Liga UFV and Ligas del Poder Judicial.
International moot courts
Defend real cases at the international level
International moot courts are trial simulations in which you can take part, competing against teams from different universities before an international jury. You can participate by joining Esade’s team of mooters. You’ll enjoy the experience of preparing a case, presenting it and putting your knowledge and skills to the test.
Some of the moot courts in which our students have participated: Moot de Arbitraje de Madrid, Frankfurt Investment Arbitration Moot Court and the most internationally renowned moot court, Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition.
