Moot Court for High School Students
Take part in a mock trial
If you like to debate and argue and you are a high school sophomore, junior, or senior, our Moot Court for High School Students is an Esade experience you won’t want to miss.
What is a moot court? It is a mock trial in which you get to be a lawyer and argue a case before a jury.
But you won’t be alone! You prepare the case as a team: you simply need to form one with classmates from your high school. Together, you will compete with teams from other schools, but… only one team will win the prize!
How does it work?

Moot Court stages
1. Preparation
- Two weeks before the Moot Court, you will receive a case (civil or criminal law) for which you must prepare both the defendant’s and the plaintiff’s position.
- Esade will provide you with the necessary legislation to prepare the case.
- All teams must prepare a statement of claim. The team to represent the plaintiff in the trial will be chosen by means of a drawing and will have to send its statement of claim to the organizers.
2. Oral arguments
Initial phase
- The day of the mock trial, the plaintiff will begin the oral argument phase with an oral presentation of his or her claim lasting a maximum of 15 minutes.
- The defendant teams will have 15 minutes to prepare their arguments. They will then have a maximum of 15 minutes to deliver an oral response to the claim. Each team will have only one speaker: the rest of the team members may not speak, only provide documents required or necessary for the speaker to prove his or her arguments.
- The court will give its verdict and choose the 4 winning teams of the oral argument phase, which will move on to the semifinal.
Semifinal
- The oral arguments will resume with the 4 semifinalist teams.
- The jury will choose the 2 teams that will move on to the final.
Final
- The oral arguments will resume with the 2 finalist teams.
- The jury will choose the winning team of the Moot Court.

Is it only for future law students?
No! Preparing a case and arguing it in court are obviously a major part of what legal professionals do, but communicating, presenting, and persuasive speaking are necessary skills in all professions today. In fact, they will make you stand out as a professional who brings added value no matter what field you choose to pursue a career in.
In short, it is an experience we recommend to all students interested in our undergraduate programs.
