Economic-business background
Specialisation tracks
Holistic and experiential learning, year by year
From the very first year, you’ll combine legal subjects with business-related subjects, as well as electives from our specialisation tracks.
All the subjects are taught using a practical methodology and you’ll take subjects which comprise resolving a real case study, integrating different legal disciplines: the 360º Legal Project and the Final Degree Project.
In addition, you’ll gain valuable international experience through the exchange programme, the solidarity-based professional internships in South America through the University Development Service (SUD) and international moot courts.
Your syllabus
First year
Introduction to Law and its context
In the first year, you’ll learn about the general foundations of Law which will develop your legal reasoning and help you to understand the Law. You’ll also begin taking economic and business-related subjects and be able to choose the first electives in your specialisation track. It’s a year full of new experiences: You’ll become familiar with exams, professors, new ways of studying, etc. And, for the first time, you’ll immerse yourself in university life on our Law campus in Barcelona.
Second year
Immersion in different areas of the Law
During the second year, you’ll learn about the foundations of different types of Law: Civil, Criminal, Tax, Mercantile, Procedural and Administrative Law. During the second semester of the year, you’ll start the 360º Legal Project comprising a case which you’ll complete at the end of the third year. Some subjects will already be taught in English, and you’ll start taking International Law classes such as European Union Law. In addition, you can start studying a second language (optional), -French or German- and take new electives in your specialisation track. Outside of class, you can participate in international moot courts and take part in the summer study abroad programme in Paris, taking a few subjects related to the Bachelor’s degree.
Third year
First contact with professional reality
The third year serves to consolidate your legal training. There will be new subjects in English which you will perfect through the Legal English class. This year, you’ll also take part in the Practicum, visiting real law firms where you’ll witness their day-to-day reality first hand. You’ll also finish the 360º Legal Project. In addition, you have to complete the compulsory professional internship, while you can opt to take part in solidarity-based internships in summer: These experiences all represent a qualitative, extremely enriching leap forward both educationally and personally.
Fourth year
Exchange programme and preparation for the professional world
During the fourth year you can complete the optional semester-long exchange programme at a law school abroad. You will also participate in workshops organised by Esade Careers to begin to define your career path and help you to break into the professional world. Finally, you’ll also present your Final Degree Project which consists of resolving a real legal case.
Successful participants will be awarded the official degree of Bachelor of Laws.
Economic-business background
A plus for your CV that will expand your professional opportunities
Business and Law are closely linked, and being familiar with accounting, finance and economics will give you a holistic view of the legal problems companies face, enabling you to provide them differentiated services.
This economic vision represents an added value for lawyers today, but it is especially valuable if you want to dedicate yourself to corporate legal affairs: With this knowledge, you’ll be able to join a specialised law firm or work directly for a corporate legal department.
360º Legal Project
Your first case spread out over two years
Through this practical experience, you’ll learn to resolve a case holistically, applying the different types of Law that exist: During the second year, you’ll be assigned a case that you’ll have to work on until the end of your third year; as you progress through the programme, you’ll be able to apply new knowledge to the same case, enriching your analysis and addressing the various issues from the perspective of the different subjects you take.
An experience that will provide you a transversal vision and develop your legal instinct
This experience will let you discover, step by step, the importance of having a transversal vision of different areas of the Law and how they interrelate in a single case: In the real world, most cases cannot be resolved from just a single legal perspective; thanks to the 360º Legal Project, you’ll be prepared to pinpoint specific legal issues and focus on the case from different legal perspectives. You’ll have the legal instinct you need to relate concepts, determine which legal areas are involved and, if necessary, create the team of legal experts that best complement you to resolve the case.
