Living is the new learning
The Double Degree in Business Administration and Law applies Esade’s experiential learning-by-doing methodology, immersing you from the outset in the day-to-day reality of the legal and business worlds.
Upon completing the programme, you’ll have defined a multifaceted professional profile for yourself, with a proactive, dynamic and flexible outlook towards work, an attitude companies and law firms highly value. In addition, you’ll consolidate all the knowledge you acquire through the compulsory internship and you’ll be able to transfer all the theoretical knowledge and tools to any situation that you encounter in the future.
Outside the classroom, you’ll take part in highly practical and unique experiences: debate leagues, moot courts and business games, amongst others.
Learning by doing in class
Active classes
You’ll work in small, participatory groups focusing on law and current legal issues, as well as business reality. You’ll constantly interact with your classmates and faculty.
New ventures: Create your own start-up
You’ll have the chance to develop your entrepreneurial spirit, defining a business plan for a potential start-up.
Trial simulations
Esade has a simulated courtroom with the same recording systems used in courts today. You’ll be able to take part in trial simulations and watch all manner of hearings and trials.
Business simulations
At Esade you’ll also be able to experience the most common decision-making processes applied in firms first-hand. The decisions you make will have an impact on the simulated company’s different departments and the firm’s bottom-line. You’ll also have to make new decisions and respond to your shareholders’ concerns.
Real case studies
In class, you and your classmates will debate on and resolve real legal and business cases, using reference companies such as Walmart, Zara-Inditex and Volkswagen. You’ll analyse the situation and propose and argue in favour of possible solutions, applying the knowledge you’ve acquired.
Competency development
Throughout the programme, you’ll work on developing fundamental skills and competencies for the legal and management fields: public-speaking, leadership, negotiations, innovation, social responsibility, etc.
Learning by doing outside the classroom
During the Double Degree, you’ll also have the opportunity to take part in various legal experiences outside of class, including international moot courts, debate leagues and Model UN sessions. In addition, you’ll also visit companies, law firms and courts and you’ll attend lectures or meetings with prestigious entrepreneurs and lawyers.
Microeconomics Challenge
For the first time, Esade has posed a transversal challenge among students of practically all its Degrees, in teams.
They have had to analyze the future of the automobile industry in Europe using economic tools, they have presented their projects before a jury of experts, made up of real companies and institutions, who have announced the winning group.
Business games
Become a senior executive and resolve a real problem
Every year, prestigious Spanish and international firms organise competitions and challenges for BBA and Double Degree students. They represent the opportunity for you and your classmates to tackle real business problems and present your proposed solutions to some of the world’s most renowned executives. You’ll essentially work for key Spanish firms and multinationals, presenting your initiatives and ideas.
Debate leagues
Debate leagues represent the opportunity to put your public-speaking skills and ability to counterargue into practice. To represent Esade and take part in these leagues, you have to enrol in a dedicated subject to develop your argumentation, critical reasoning, research and oral resource skills. After completing the latter, students will be selected to make up the different teams who will then begin preparing for the leagues in which they decide to compete.
Some of the leagues in which our students have participated:
- Liga de la Xarxa Vives
- Liga Unijés
- Liga UFV
- Ligas del Poder Judicial
International moot courts
International moot courts are trial simulations in which you have to resolve a case and defend your solution to an international jury, competing against teams from other law schools. The Double Degree gives you the opportunity to participate in some of the most prestigious moot courts and experience having to prepare a case, overcome all the challenges and put your knowledge and skills to the test.
Participate in the most prestigious moot courts
Moot de Arbitraje de Madrid, Frankfurt Investment Artitration Moot Court and the most internationally well-known moot court, the Phipil C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition.
Capstone Module at the European Investment Bank
Work on a sustainability and renewable energy consulting project
The EIB is the European Union’s lending arm, the world’s biggest multilateral financial institution, and one of the largest providers of climate finance.
Taking the capstone module will allow you to participate, for five months, in a sustainability and renewable energy consulting project for a company. You will work on the project throughout the subject and present it in June to a panel of EIB economists in Luxemburg.
According to one student:
“Our project consisted of using data mining and machine learning to take the pulse of the financial market. To this end, we had to code a program that would allow us to predict the movements of the S&P 500. Despite our lack of prior programming knowledge, I am proud to say that we managed to write a program that predicted the movements of the S&P 500 with an 80% accuracy rate.”
