Bachelor in Law career options

Attorney in a law firm

You’ll be able to practice as a lawyer and represent clients in trials, conflicts and personal matters, etc., while working for a Spanish or international law firm or even starting your own firm.

State attorney

The Spanish government includes a corps of state attorneys which you can join by passing the official exam. This can be an option for you if you’re interested in providing legal assistance to the entire administration and defending the government’s different institutions in both national and international courts.

Legal advisor for companies and institutions

If you’re focused on law but love the business world, you can provide your legal services to private companies: You can advise companies on complying with different laws or defending their interests in conflicts, M&As, etc. Your background in management will enable you to offer your clients differentiated service.

Public prosecutor

A public prosecutor is an attorney that presents evidence in criminal cases before a judge to ensure that crimes are duly punished. You do not represent the victims; you are an attorney for the state. If you opt for this career path, you’ll have to sit the corresponding official exam.

Judge

If you’re passionate about resolving conflicts and having the power to make decisions, serving as a judge may be one of the best options for you. You’ll have to maintain an objective and global view of the cases before you, assess the evidence and arguments presented by both parties and issue a legal verdict and sentence in compliance with the law.

Council of State attorney

The Council of State is an official body in the Spanish Government which the latter can consult before making key decisions. The Council comprises a corps of attorneys who must sit and pass the corresponding official exam. If you work for the Council, your responsibilities will be studying, preparing and drafting projects related to the projects that the Government raises with the Council and issuing a determination, amongst other tasks.

Notary public

The primary role of notary publics is to attest and certify that agreements and legal documents such as wills, mortgages, deeds, agreements, etc., comply with current legislation. This is an interesting professional outlet if you like the law and legal matters but are not interested in courts, trials, negotiations, etc.

Property or mercantile registrar

Property and mercantile registries are two public institutions in which you can also work, though you need to sit and pass the corresponding official exam. Working for these registries comprises registering properties and all the information companies with a presence in Spain have to register by law.
