Humanities Workshop
The Humanities Workshop is a set of sessions that builds a forum for reflection based on classic cultural texts. This approach is based on the premise that the classics pose deep questions about what makes us human. These questions continue to affect our lives, raising moral and political issues and bearing on our conflicts with others.
Through authors such as Delphine de Vigan, Marian Vayreda & Lev Tolstoi, this workshop examines various stories which, despite being singular and personal, bear on Man’s condition. Their message is as relevant today as when they were written or painted. The classics limn brighter horizons for Man and with them, the chance to build a world that is freer, fairer, more understanding, and more critical. These works not only shed light on the glory of Man but also describe the risks, dangers and threats that beset him. Reading the classics is an excellent way of honing a basic life skill — the gaining of understanding. They are, as it were, the distillation of lives and worlds, and of their many layers. These works are open to a host of senses and interpretations, and are new and fresh at every reading.
