All you need to know about the Esade Double Degree in Law + Global Governance
The Double Degree in Law + Global Governance, Economics & Legal Order will give you the knowledge you need to become an expert in law, international economics and global governance.
The programme’s curriculum has been designed to provide you with a transversal, multidisciplinary and global vision, culminating with a specialisation in a specific geographic region of the world. In addition, you can also choose to complete a track in Global Economics or Global Politics and focus the global governance component of your degree on the area that interests you the most.
A curriculum designed for you to become an expert in law and international relations
From the very first year, you’ll combine law subjects such as Fundamentals of Criminal Law and Theory of Crime with Global Governance subjects such as Geopolitics and Macroeconomics taught entirely in English. In addition, you’ll also spend 6 hours per week studying other languages to develop your professional profile even further.
First year
Laying the groundwork in the law and globalisation fields
During the first year, you’ll lay the foundations of your knowledge of the legal world and you’ll begin exploring international economics and geopolitics. In addition, your first year at university will also imply new challenges for you: more difficult exams and more demanding faculty. However, it’s also a year full of fantastic new experiences: Join student organisations and immerse yourself in Esade’s intense campus life.
Second year
Immersion in specific areas of law and in the foundations of international relations
You’ll begin to further your knowledge of both law and international relations during the second year. In addition, you’ll also begin your specialisation track in Global Politics or Global Economics. Similarly, you’ll become much more familiar with your programme and the setting, thanks to which, you’ll know how to make the most of both your studies and campus life.
Third year
Consolidation of your legal background and introduction to international politics
The third year serves to consolidate your legal and academic training. In addition, you’ll further your knowledge of geopolitics with multiple international experiences, including the optional summer study tour in Brussels. The latter will enable you to learn first-hand about the leading European Union institutions and their unique traits.
Fourth year
First contact with the professional community and knowledge of global transactions
Throughout the fourth year, you’ll study the legal, political and economic rules of global economic transactions, allowing you to understand these in-depth. You’ll also have the opportunity to carry out a solidarity-based international internship in developing countries through Esade’s University Development Service (SUD). In addition, you’ll be able to choose a city abroad for the optional exchange programme and the geographic area in which you’ll specialise. Lastly, you also have to present your Final Degree Project, requiring you to apply all the knowledge you’ve acquired in different areas of the law and other disciplines to resolve a real problem.
Fifth year
Exchange programme and specialisation in a specific geographic region of the world
Lastly, during the fifth year you’ll expand your horizons with even more international experiences. In the first semester, you can choose to do the optional, semester-long exchange programme and study at another of the world’s best universities. During the second semester, you’ll complete your geographic specialisation at a university in that region. You’ll also carry out your professional internship in an international organisation and, to end, you have to present your Final Degree Project.
Tracks
Global Economics or Global Politics: In which area do you want to specialise?
During the first year of the programme, you’ll take subjects in both economics and political science, though later you’ll be able to choose in which of the two tracks you want to specialise. No matter which track you pick, at the end of the programme you’ll have an additional specialisation which will help you to multiply your career options in law and international relations.
Global Economics
Through this track, you’ll acquire the knowledge you need to understand the global economy and how it functions. In addition, you’ll also learn to use the tools needed to carry out rigorous economic analyses. After completing this track, you’ll be able to:
- Assess proposed economic regulations
- Analyse specific markets
- Undertake a macroeconomic analysis of a given country
- Analyse a concrete market in depth: the effects different regulations have on that market and how to test hypotheses using real data
Global Politics
In this track you’ll study content specifically related to political science and globalization, international politics and conflict management as well as geopolitics and natural resources.
This track is fundamentally practical in nature, helping you to develop the following competencies:
- Avoid international conflicts
- Manage an international development project
- Learn about different interaction options between public and private organisations
- Analyse interactions between political and economic agents
