Esade increases its commitment to equal opportunities, inclusion, diversity and support for young talent by earmarking a record €4 million for 2021-22 Esade Scholarships Program, up from €3.7m the previous year. Private donations account for 38% of this funding (from companies, foundations, former students and the Esade community), whilst the other 62% is funded by Esade itself. In all, 287 students have a scholarship for an Esade program. Esade scholarships cover up to 100% of tuition fees and also include, in cases of greater financial need, board and lodgings.

The support for talent and diversity provided by the scholarship program means that 7.7% of students taking bachelor’s degree or joint degrees at Esade have received a scholarship in these conditions enabling them to study at Esade. In this respect, during the scholarship award ceremony, Koldo Echebarria, Esade director general, underlined the solidarity of each donor: “Despite the fallout of the pandemic, all donors have stepped up their commitment to this cause, renewing our enthusiasm about moving forward together this year and increasing our scholarship program even more, because first-rate education is one of the mainstays of a better society.”

This increase in funding is thanks to the organizations that contributed most of the private donations to Esade in the 2020-21 year, and increased engagement and solidarity from Esade alumni whose donations climbed from 8% to 13% of all private donations. Individual donors doubled in number in the 2019-20 year and increased again from 367 to 402 in 2020-21.

Boost for research

Donations from private-sector organizations and individual donors also drive research and knowledge. In the 2020-21 year, to be precise, funding of €1.5 million was invested in different lines of research to produce relevant content, foster public debate and make a positive impact on society, thereby contributing to knowledge transfer. In this respect, through its knowledge hubs and research institutes, Esade plays an active role in research and analysis, advising companies and society in general on crucial considerations for their advancement, such as SDG compliance, increased sustainability, support for enterprise, contribution to new ideas in the sphere of social innovation and better economic policies. One example is the Menttores research project which helped more than 200 students in vulnerable circumstances improve their standard of education. “Esade is committed to growth by means of research aimed at creating value in the classroom for managers, companies and society,” added Koldo Echebarria.

A gateway to talent

In the last 11 years, the number of students on scholarships has increased considerably from 115 in the 2010-11 year to 287 awarded a talent scholarship this year. According to the Donation Report, there are students with scholarships on every Esade program: 92 taking the Bachelor in Business Administration (BBA); 48, Joint Degree in Business Administration and Law (GBD); 37, Joint Degree in Law, Global Governance, Economics & Legal Order (GDL); 22, Bachelor in Global Governance, Economics & Legal Order (GEL); 20, Bachelor Global in Global Governance (BGG) and Bachelor’s Degree in Law (GED). There are also scholarships for postgraduate programs, specifically 15 for students taking the MSc programs and 13 for the Master’s Degree in Law (MUA).
