The Institute for Social Innovation (IIS) was created in 2006 to undertake quality research to make a valuable scholarly contribution and transfer the knowledge it generates, ensuring it has a positive impact on social transformation.
In its early years, the IIS’ identity was expressed through its mission, vision and other key traits, establishing the general lines of action which have grown over the years to encompass a wide variety of research, knowledge transfer activities and educational projects as well as organizational development initiatives.
Years later, the IIS faced new challenges for its ongoing development and its desire to further the academic and social impact of its programs and projects.
The IIS thus focused on exploring new avenues to launch novel academic programs and lines of action, learning about what other social innovation institutes around the world are doing and exploring possibilities to internationalize its own research and educational programs.
In September 2018, Ignasi Martí, Professor in the Esade Department of Society, Politics and Sustainability, was named Director of the IIS, replacing Ignasi Carreras, a Professor in the Esade Department of Strategy and General Management, and Founder and Director of the IIS since 2006.
