"Mujeres y liderazgo"
The Esade Institute for Social Innovation and ISS organized a conference within the “Connecting Through the Workplace” series focused on the role of women in leadership positions. Notwithstanding the many advances that have been made to reduce inequality in the representation of women in senior management and positions of responsibility at companies, it is estimated that women account for only 6% of CEOs worldwide. As for governance, although in Spain the IBEX 35 companies met the 30% target set by the Spanish National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) for women board members in 2020, there is still a clear gender gap at other companies, as well as at the management level, which is often where decisions are made.
Although progress is being made on legislation, compulsory quotas are beginning to bear fruit in the form of greater representativeness, and transparency is increasing in terms of reporting and accountability on gender issues, there is still a long way to go. Real equality in decision-making and in the access of female talent to corporate governance and executive bodies remains a major challenge. How has the COVID-19 crisis affected gender parity? What actions and changes should be undertaken to ensure that 50% of the population is also equitably represented in the strategic management and direction of organizations? What barriers are preventing this from happening? Why is it so difficult for women to access leadership positions?
We encourage you to take a look at the conclusions in the conference white paper.
