Regulations

Access to the Esade Library is restricted to members of the Universitat Ramon Llull community and Esade Alumni as well as others who have received express authorisation whether as individuals or as members of a given institution.

Members of other universities participating in the Catalan Consortium of University Services (Consorci de Serveis Universitaris de Catalunya, CSUC) may also access the Library except during exam periods or periods of maximum use. See the opening hours page for the most recent information.

Those wishing to enter the Library must show (upon request by Library staff) a currently valid ID card from Esade, Universitat Ramon Llull, Esade Alumni or CSUC university. No other type of ID shall be considered valid for this purpose.

Your ID card is personal and non-transferable. People who do not have a currently valid ID card from their corresponding institution or who do not have it on hand to show upon request by Library staff will be asked to leave the Library immediately.

The Library has to ensure that it creates the appropriate environment in which to work and that its facilities and resources are adequately used.  

For this reason, Library patrons may not:

• Eat in the Library or bring in drinks which may spill (glasses, cans, etc.).
• Show disrespect towards other Library users or personnel.
• Damage Library documents, equipment or facilities.
• Handle computer cables (unplug them, disconnect computers from the network, etc.).
• Take any documents from the Library (regardless of their format or type) that have not been duly accounted for via the loan service.
• Remove any Library document not included as part of the loan service (red-tag books, journals, academic projects, etc.).
• Fail to carry out the conditions established in the loan regulations.
• Fail to comply with currently valid norms regarding intellectual property rights, specifically in terms of reproduction limits and the distribution of copies of texts subject to copyright laws.
• Fail to comply with the legal conditions of the online resources to which the Library has subscribed, for example, that said resources may only be accessed for personal study and research and without any commercial ends.
• Reserve library seats for later use

Library users are also required to show Library personnel their bags, backpacks and folders as requested by staff should the antitheft alarm sound.

The purpose of the computers is to consult the information sources needed to carry out work or research. The Library reserves the right to limit their use for other ends (individual papers, e-mail, social networks, etc.).

Anyone failing to comply with these rules will be asked to leave immediately after receiving an initial warning from the staff.

Repeated violations of these norms as well as any other severe infraction or behaviour not specified above but which is deemed harmful for the Library or its users may imply the expulsion of the person responsible and prohibition from using the Library’s services for a proportional period of time. At the same time, the Library shall duly inform the corresponding university programme or school office so that they may take whatever measures they see fit.

The objective of the Loan Service is to enable users to read documents from the collection outside the Library premises, as well as assure the availability of these items to the entire university community after their due date.

Eligible users include participants in all Esade programmes with an individual ID card (TUI), faculty, staff and members of the Esade Alumni Association. Students, faculty and staff of Universitat Ramon Llull institutions may also borrow books by showing their individual University ID card.

Loans and returns must be recorded either at the self-check terminals or at the library desk within the established hours.

It is essential to carry a current and non-sanctioned Ramon Llull University card.

Materials in the following categories cannot be borrowed:

• Reference materials marked with a red label.
• Periodicals (yearbooks, journals, working papers, etc.).
• Theses, final projects and student papers.
• Teaching materials for faculty use (case studies, videos, etc.).
• Other materials that are considered non-circulating items.

Colour-coded labels on document spines show loan periods and restrictions:

• White label:
  • Faculty and Staff: 60 days.
  • PhD Students: 30 days.
  • Students and Esade Alumni members: 21 days.
• Green label: 15 days.
• Yellow label: 7 days.
• Red label: not available for circulation.

The number of items that a borrower may have on loan simultaneously varies according to user type:

• Faculty and Staff: 30 items.
• PhD students: 10 items.
• Students and Esade Alumni members: 10.

Loans can be renewed provided a reserve has not been placed on the item by another user.

Up to six consecutive renewals can be made online, through the user's personal account My Account, by phone or by email. To make a seventh renewal, it is essential to take the document to the Library desk.

The user who damages or loses a document which it has borrowed, must provide a new copy or, if not possible, a work that the Library consider suitable.

Overdue loans will be penalized with 1-day loss of the loan service for every day overdue and for every document.

If an item is not returned, the Library will proceed as it deems fit in each case.

Use of the loan service implies the acceptance of its rules.

Currently enrolled students in Esade programmes.

• Currently employed Esade faculty, academic assistants and researchers.
• Authorised visiting professors and researchers.
• Currently employed Esade personnel and administrative staff (PAS).
• Esade Alumni members: can access a limited number of e-Resources. For additional information, please consult the list of Alumni Services.

• As a general norm, license agreements allow authorised users to access electronic resources for individual use though solely for academic, study or research ends.
• E-Resources cannot be used for any commercial or for-profit ends.
• E-Resource contents cannot be systematically downloaded unless the individual resources include an individual download feature.
• Authorised users are assigned a unique user ID and password to access the e-Resources. These IDs and passwords are individual, personal and non-transferable.
• If faculty members want to upload any e-Resource content to the Moodle platform for their use in class, they must first contact the Library to ensure that they have the necessary permissions to use said content.
• Authorised users are responsible for complying with the terms and conditions of use of these e-Resources. Non-fulfilment of these conditions will result in the cancellation of their authorisation to use said resources for a period of time to be determined. Non-fulfilment of license agreements by any user may also result in the service’s cancellation for the entire Esade community.
