About
Origin
A group of full-time faculty in the Department of Private Law and the Department of Public Law at Esade Law School (URL) became aware of the importance of joining forces to promote our profession, our concerns and our way of understanding the law as an object of study as well as a subject to be taught. We decided to embrace the essential transversality of our knowledge and seize the opportunity to share our experiences. This decision led to increasingly fruitful collaborations and the creation of a Seminar for the Permeability of Knowledge in the 2006-2007 academic year.
The next step was the creation of a fledgling research group (Legal Guidelines and Social Change).
Evolution
The team spent the next few years cultivating interuniversity networks and naturally refining the scope of their intellectual interests and research objectives. The group focused on core areas of knowledge in which their vocation and propensity for teamwork was the strongest, acquiring an interdisciplinary identity without forcing the adoption of labels. This gave rise to a concentration of knowledge in private law, particularly the classic areas of civil law, commercial law and international private law, with transversal support in the areas of constitutional law and tax law. Property law was eventually identified as the foundation, purpose and common thread running through the group’s research activity and scientific output, with a clear direct link to the strategic focus of the institution and the doctoral programme (economic and business law).
The structural characteristics of the group are as follows:
It is an interdisciplinary group
The group members are specialised in different areas of legal knowledge (civil law, commercial law, international private law, constitutional law and tax law).
It is an interuniversity group
The group members represent three Catalan universities (Ramon Llull University, University of Barcelona and Pompeu Fabra University). Ramon Llull University serves as the base of operations, enabling the group to attract talent from other competitive centres.
It is a group characterised by high scientific quality
Nearly all group members hold a PhD. Two members have high-profile university appointments and many others hold teaching positions.
It is a multigenerational and gender-balanced group
The group members do not belong to a single generation. Veteran professors work alongside up-and-coming scholars focused on career development, as well as others who are just starting out.
