Systemic change and NGOs. Boosting advanced multisectoral collaborations
Our environment is changing ever more quickly – while social challenges have become more profound, complex, interdependent, and global. This requires a more holistic and adaptive approach to understanding reality, which is why systems thinking and a collaborative approach are increasingly necessary. To resolve problems and respond to their own missions, non-governmental organizations need a broad global vision and an understanding of relationships and their causes and effects. A systemic approach enables NGOs to promote changes in the systems they wish to influence. In turn, the complexity of social and environmental challenges demands a multisectoral approach, and so social organizations (as well as other agents) must aim for more effective and transformative intersectoral collaborations while bringing new actors into their conversations.
The report (prepared within the framework of the Esade-PwC Social Leadership Program) tackles the above issues and presents the concepts of systemic change and multi-sector collaboration, as well as offering a guide for their promotion within the third sector. Various inspiring cases are discussed as examples. A chapter is added on the challenges and current trends for collaborations with the public sector.
