The first workshop of the academic year of the Observatorio EsadeGeo Fundación Repsol de Geopolítica de la Transición Energética took place last Friday, November 3th at the Esade Madrid campus.

Entilted ‘‘Europe's role in the post IRA global energy context’’, it brought together different representatives from the public, private and academic sectors in the fields of industry, energy and infrastructure to discuss the effects of the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) in Europe and the transition it implies from a liberal globalized model to a more fragmented world, where international cooperation must align with national industrial policies.

The workshop was led by Dr. Nils Redeker, Deputy Director of the Jacques Delors Centre (Hertie School, Berlin), who addressed the main features of the IRA and its impact on European competitiveness. Redeker also exposed the reasons why this should be countered with a coordinated industrial policy should be pursued at European level, and what are the reforms that must be undertaken in the European Union to achieve this objective. The event also counted with the assistance and participation of Javier Solana, President of Esadegeo and Angel Saz-Carranza, Director of Esadegeo.
