Together for a better world

Con mucha ilusión os damos la bienvenida a la nueva Sustainability Week de Esade, un evento que agrupa a nuestra comunidad con el fin de compartir experiencias y conocimientos que nos ayuden a ser agentes de transformación y promotores del cambio hacia una sociedad más sostenible.

En esta edición, se han organizado tanto actividades curriculares en las aulas, que llegarán a todos los estudiantes de los distintos programas, como actividades co-curriculares, que nos permitirán utilizar nuestros campus y su entorno como un laboratorio de aprendizaje. La mayoría de estas actividades se realizarán al aire libre y todas estarán abiertas a toda la comunidad de Esade.

Os animamos a participar y a colaborar todos para avanzar hacia una transformación real y un cambio de visión de nuestra comunidad, para que nuestro día a día impacte de forma positiva en la mejora de la sociedad y en la regeneración del planeta.

Monday February 21st

9.30h-10.30h: The role of Business Schools in training responsible leaders

Esade Forum, Barcelona campus

Koldo Echebarria and Cristina Giménez will talk with the co-founder and global ambassador of B Lab, Marcello Palazzi, about the role of business schools in the training of responsible leaders. The meeting will address current issues such as the climate emergency, the professional profiles of the future and the responsibility of educational institutions such as ours in leading change in favor of a more just and sustainable social development.

14h–14.30h: Implementation of the sustainability strategy in the HP PIBS (Print Industrial Business Services)

A talk by the company's "HP PIBS (Print Industrial Business Services)" department, talking about the sustainability strategy and new dynamics that the department is starting to implement to become the number one “support and services organization”. The purpose is to inspire students by suggesting new ways to take care of the planet without losing the competitiveness that characterizes this multinational. Event organized by the student association Ennova.

13.30h–14.15h: Health activities: Self-awareness and conscious decisions

This 45-minute seminar offers some practical exercises to gain more self-awareness. The seminar aims to increase participant’s self-awareness in order to make conscious decisions

17.15h-18.15h: Master Class: Impact Investing

Online

This master class is a core activity of the SIL Program. It will start by framing impact investing in the broader context of the impact economy, including the field of responsible and sustainable investing. We will then review the specific features of the impact investing process and some examples of how this is done in practice. We will finish by reflecting on the opportunities and limitations of the sector and the role that impact investing can play in addressing societal challenges.

18.15h–19.15h: Sign language Conference + Training

Sant Cugat Campus

Conference + training in sign language. We will have the opportunity to attend a conference on sign language and the first training we will offer on it, being able to learn a method of communication which many of us have heard about, but few of us would know how to use. It is a unique opportunity to expand our knowledge and communication skills, do not miss it!

13.30h-14.15h: Health activities: Vinyasa Energizing Flow

Fusion Point (Sant Cugat Campus)

Yoga Session for everyone, in which we will flow through movement and breathing. The sequence allows us to de-stress body and mind, stretch, strengthen and finally relax.

Done by: Gala Ortin (@galaortin). Yoga instructor, with more than 500hr of training between Spain and Los Angeles. Teaching at different studios in Barcelona, also at her own online studio, guiding events for international companies and taking care of private clients.

18h-19h: “The 350 Million Euro World Fund”

The MIE programme will host on February 22th a fireside chat with Tim Schuhmacher (co-founder of domain marketplace Sedo (and investor in Ecosia, Zolar, gridX, Pachama and CarbonCloud). He just launched the 350 million Euro World Fund and will discuss exciting opportunities they see in the space.

19h: “Familia Torres, from sustainability to regenerative agriculture”

Esade Forum

A conversation between Mr. Miguel A. Torres, president of Familia Torres, Mônica Poggiali Árabe, president of Net Impact Club and MBA–2023 and Alfred Vernis, professor of the General Strategy department, about the efforts of the company to become one of the worldwide sustainable wineries. The dream of Torres fifth generation is to maintain ownership of Familia Torres and to pass it on to the next generation. In the last 15 years they have become one the leading sustainable wineries worldwide. They are motto: “The more we care for the earth, the better our wine.” Now they have reinforce their strategy and they want to go “beyond sustainability”. We would talk with him about their long sustainability journey and past achievements, and their future plans.

During the Sustainability Week you will have the opportunity to watch the documentary Wine Masters – Familia Torres, produced by the Dutchman Klaas de Jong, is an introspective journey through the Penedès region by the Torres family with Miguel A. Torres, Miguel Torres Maczassek and Mireia Torres Maczassek as protagonists. Throughout this documentary the Penedès is shown as an essential setting for understanding the scope of the work of a five-generation Torres family dynasty. We recommend to watch it before attending the event.

13.30h-14.15h: Health activities: Sustainability and cooking

With the ongoing spotlight placed upon sustainability, there forms an array of areas in which one can be sustainable. This event aims specifically to promote food sustainability. In recent years we have seen the increased development on sustainability surrounding food. Michelin guide for example offers restaurants a green Michelin star as their “Sustainable Gastronomy Selection” to sustainable restaurants. The World’s 50 Best list by William Reed Business Media on the other hand offers Sustainable Restaurant Awards. This all shows us the development and continuation of this sustainable movement within the food industry. We therefore would like to present you with a chef and further promote the food industries’ link with sustainability.

10h-18h: Stand with information about sustainable products

Pedralbes-Barcelona Campus

EQUAL & Oikos Barcelona have organized a stand on February 24th on the Pedralbes campus, with informative flyers about the menstrual cycle, with the aim of also removing the stigma regarding this. The team will also be explaining to students alternative products that are more sustainable than tampons or pads. In addition, we will be raffling a menstrual cup!

12h-13h: "Nine billion people able to live well, within planetary boundaries: a new mantra for business action"

Room 101, Sant Cugat campus

A new mantra for the coming decades (World Business Council for Sustainable Development, WBCSD). Contributing to social-ecological system resilience instead of taking from society and nature is not an easy challenge for companies. In the Anthropocene epoch, firms are required to develop new logics to respond to the markets, radically changing the way in which they do business along the entire value chain.

13.30h-14.15h: Health activities: Zumba

Corner 4 (Sant Cugat Campus)

Zumba is a fitness program that combines Latin and international music with dance moves. Zumba routines incorporate interval training — alternating fast and slow rhythms — to help improve cardiovascular fitness. We will perform a choreography composed by using all or some of the different core steps. There are four basic rhythms (salsa, reggaeton, merengue and cumbia) and each rhythm has four core steps. You will burn weight and calories, relieve stress, perform a full body workout and great cardio and you will enhance your mood!!

18h: 0Waste Hackathon’s informative session

eGarage, Sant Cugat campus

The 0Waste Hackathon aims to generate ideas and business solutions to the problem of waste generation. Through guided co-creation processes, open innovation, design thinking and multidisciplinary dynamics, participants will work in teams to generate an environmentally and economically sustainable business idea, in order to reduce the amount of waste or transform it into raw materials. The 0Waste Hackathon will take place on March 11 and 12.

19.30h CET: Esade Impact Talks: Social Impact Catalysts: Who generates impact?

Online

Join our 2nd talk “Social Impact Catalysts: Who generates impact?” This session will help you to discover which catalysts generate social impact and how they do it. Joining us will be professionals from an NGO, a company who is working on CSR/a BCorp, a social enterprise, a multinational with purpose and foundation. They will explain a variety of concepts to us, like ‘CSR’ and ‘greenwashing’. They will talk about missteps and career opportunities. Last but not least, they will give you insights on how it is to work in this environment.

The panelists are: Laia Mas, Director of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at Danone- Spain. Maybritt van Engeland, People Business Partner - People Heroe at Tony’s Chocolonely – Netherlands and Moderator: Tobias Hahn, Professor at the Department of Society, Politics and Sustainability of Esade.

Friday February 25th

12h-14h: Visit to the Arrupe Hospitality Community

Sant Cugat Campus

Visit to the Arrupe Hospitality Community of Migra Studium. The Arrupe Community is located near our Sant Cugat campus. This community welcomes and offers a home to asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants. Having a home enables them to continue their studies and facilitates finding a job. Volunteers participate in the community offering Spanish and Catalan classes, computer classes, recreational activities and help in the garden.

During the visit we will get to know the community, its social integration project and the garden.

13.30h-14.15h: Health activities: Gasol Foundation's Healthy Galaxy

Classroom 102 Sant Cugat Campus

We invite you to travel together through the Healthy Galaxy, the pedagogical metaphor used by the Gasol Foundation in all its programs to share, in a simple and close way, the importance of the four pillars of healthy habits: physical activity and sport, healthy eating, sleep and emotional well-being. Founded by Pau and Marc Gasol in 2013, the Gasol Foundation works to reduce and prevent childhood obesity, one of the main health challenges of the 21st century.

Saturday February 26th

10h-13h: Beach clean-up

Barceloneta Beach

Cleaning activity in the Barceloneta Beach. This event and due to the Covid-19 restriction will be limited for 50 participants. It will begin al 10h with and an ice-breaking game and after that small groups will be created and they will do the activity in different routes.  At 13h the activity will finish and there will be lunch.

10h-13h: Volunteering in the soup Kitchen of Santa Maria Reina

Collaborate in the soup kitchen "El Pa de Sant Oleguer" preparing and distributing food for those who need it most. This year Esade students have made it possible for this dining room to open 7 days a week. If you also want to collaborate on February 27, you are more than invited.

Art exhibition

Art pieces created by The Studio and Techlabs student associations will be exhibited at Sant Cugat campus during all week.

As part of the Art Exhibition of the Sustainability Week 2022, TechLabs Barcelona and TheStudio invite to explore the intersection of art and technology. Guided by curiosity, drive for innovation, and societal critique, they introduce three leading digital artists that each have created a lasting impact in the digital art world and shine light on the technology driving the digital art revolution.

My SDG contribution challenge at Instagram

The aim of the competition is to raise awareness of the SDGs among individuals and the entire Esade community about the SDGs, promote the search for solutions for certain SDGs and share them through social networks (Instagram) to inspire and call for action. In this way, the aim is to achieve individual and individual and collective commitment.

Participate in the “My SDG Contribution” Instagram campaign by posting a picture of a creative solution to an SDG issue of your preference in your story. Participation is open to all Esade’s Community. There will be a prize of 50 euros per person for the 4 winners of the best photogr aphs.
