Biografia
Carolina Villegas Sanchez va fer el Doctorat en Ciències Econòmiques al European University Institute de Florència, Itàlia. També és Màster en Economia del Desenvolupament University of Sussex, Regne Unit. Actualment, és professora adjunta del Departament d'Economia d'ESADE. La seva recerca se centra en l'economia i les finances internacionals i, en concret, en els fets que demostren el creixement i la integració financera Ha realitzat recerques sobre fluxos de capital i convergència, sobre els factors determinants de la inversió directa estrangera FDI, com també sobre la durabilitat dels sistemes de taxa de canvi flexible. Seguint les tendències recents de la bibliografia econòmica, utilitza dades a nivell micro p. ex., dades a nivell d'empresa per donar resposta a les qüestions macroeconòmiques tradicionals. S'ha centrat en el paper dels sistemes financers locals ben desenvolupats com a condició prèvia per als excedents de productivitat positius que es deriven de la presència d'empreses multinacionals. Ha participat en el disseny de polítiques. Ha estat investigadora en la Université libre de Bruxelles, i ha participat en diverses pràctiques en organitzacions internacionals, com la Comissió Europea i el Fons Monetari Internacional, Actualment, és consultora externa a curt termini del Banc Mundial.
