Biography
Prof. Valentina De Marchi holds a PhD in Economics and Management from University of Padova Italy and a Master degree in Economics and Management of Networks at University Ca' Foscari of Venice.
Prior to joining ESADE in 2022, she was Associate Professor at University of Padova Italy. She has been visiting at the Center on Globalization, Governance & Competitiveness at Duke University USA; the Department of Innovation and Organizational Economics at Copenhagen Business School Denmark; the Department of Business Administration and Marketing, Universitat Jaume I Spain, Center for Frugal Innovation in Africa @Erasmus University The Netherlands.
She is interested in understanding how firms can develop environmental innovations in the context of global value chains and international businesses. She has conducted research on circular economy and digital 4.0 technologies, on the tensions and paradoxes in environmental innovations, on local development and sustainability practices, especially in the context of SMEs within industrial districts. She is author or co-author of more than 54 Scopus articles published in journals such as Research Policy, Business Strategy & the Environment, Journal of Business Ethics, International Journal of Production Economics, Economic Geography.
She edited special issues in journals such California Management Review and co-edited the book Local Clusters in Global Value Chains: Linking Actors and Territories Through Manufacturing and Innovation. She is Associate editors at Journal of Industrial and Business Economics and serves in the editorial boards of Organization & Environment and Journal of International Business Studies and starting 2023 is deputy editor of the Journal of International Business Policy.
She is an active citizen in academic communities: she is national representative within the European International Business Academy EIBA; has been president of the Group for Research on Organizations and the Natural Environment GRONEN 2020-22 and member of the organizing committee of Network on Global for the Advancement of Socio-Economics SASE 2018-2023.
She is passionate about impact and outreach; she is a TedX speaker, regularly contribute to policy or industry events and has collaborated in several national and international research projects.
