Biography

Dr. Keyi Tang joined the Department of Society, Politics, and Sustainability at ESADE Business School as an Assistant Professor in the fall of 2024.

Her research and teaching focus on the comparative and international political economy of development. Utilizing big data analysis of restricted databases and qualitative fieldwork case studies, she examines topics such as China’s global economic strategy, structural transformation in the Global South, and the institutional factors contributing to resource misallocation. She has conducted extensive fieldwork in China, Ethiopia, Ghana, Zambia, and Vietnam.

Dr. Tang’s current book project investigates the distributive politics of development finance from multilateral institutions, OECD countries, and China in Africa. Her ongoing research also explores the environmental and social governance of foreign direct investment and renewable energy projects.

She holds a Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies SAIS, an M.A. from the Hopkins-Nanjing Center, and a B.A. from Nanjing University. Prior to joining ESADE, she was a research fellow at the Boston University Global Development Policy GDP Center from 2022 to 2024.
