Biography
Javier Amaya is an Assistant Professor of Operations, Innovation and Technology Management at ESADE and a research affiliate at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford.
His research explores the opportunities and challenges organisations face when integrating artificial intelligence into their operations. He has examined the productivity impact of AI across sectors such as auditing, engineering, and retail, as well as its secondary effects on firm performance — particularly how AI adoption influences workers’ expertise and wellbeing. His work combines both qualitative and quantitative approaches.
Javier is also interested in how organisations pursue safe innovation with AI, focusing on practical governance mechanisms and the adoption of AI under emerging regulations, including the EU AI Act. He co-developed an ethics-based audit protocol for conformity assessment in collaboration with colleagues at the University of Oxford, and co-founded oxethica, a start-up dedicated to AI auditing and governance www.oxethica.com.
His research has been recognised with several awards, including the EurOMA Harry Boer Best Student Paper Award, the Saïd Foundation Best Management Student Paper Award, and the Academy of Management Best Paper Award Runner-up.
