Biography
Frank Wiengarten has completed his PhD degree entitled 'Measuring the performance impact of electronic business applications in buyer-supplier relationships within the German automotive industry' in September 2008 Ulster Business School, UK. He holds a Diplom in Business & Management Paderborn University, Germany. After completing his PhD he worked as a Post Doctoral Research Fellow at the UCD Smurfit School of Business Dublin, Ireland.
Besides his academic career he has worked for various well-known consultancy and logistic firms such as Price Waterhouse Coopers and the DB Schenker Group.
Frank Wiengarten's current research explores the role of several environmental and sustainable practices e.g. ISO 14,000 certification, workers health & safety, recycling & waste reduction in the supply chain setting. Specifically, he explored the impact of institutional factors such as the country and the level of economic development on the degree of investments in sustainable supply chain management practices. In his earlier research projects he has explored the role and importance of electronic business systems on collaborative supply chain practices. He has explored the enabling role of various electronic business systems on collaborative supply chain practices such as information sharing or joint decision making. Frank Wiengarten is currently working on two research projects. Firstly, he is involved in an ESRC research grant that explores the impact on ISO 14,000/9,000 certification on a firms' financial performance in various countries. Secondly, he is part of a multicountry research group exploring various sustainable supply chain and related operational performance issues.
